PML-Q picks
slates amid rumpus
By Asghar Ali Mubarak
ISLAMABAD—The ongoing session of PML (Q) parliamentary board remained
quite inconclusive, and rife with volatile controversial as ever even on
the third day.
The meeting, which started late as usual, was chaired by secretary
general Mushahid Hussain Syed, and was attended by former PM, Shaukat
Aziz, former president Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari and other board
members. President PML (Q), Chaudhry Shujaat did not show up altogether,
ostensibly to escape any unpleasant criticism, and his absence before
Juma prayers was quite conspicuous, causing “quite a stir and
speculations”. During the session, Mushahid Hussain Syed informed the
members that Chaudhry Shujaat had an important meeting with President
Musharraf And would be joining the meeting after Juma prayers. Most of
the members who attended the meeting expressed their total disinterest
in any further proceedings, and after Juma prayers, Chaudhry Shujat’s
absence was finally confirmed due to some reasons.
Former PM, Shaukat Aziz however attended both the sessions, while the
participating members were observed canvassing for their favorite
candidates.
Which prompted the board to announce that tickets would strictly be
awarded on merit.
Earlier before Juma prayers, Sheikh Rashid was severely criticized for
being awarded NA-55 constituency, and according to sources volatile
scenes and spats were witnessed after which Sheikh Sahib left the
meeting quite annoyed.
Meanwhile before Juma prayers , Ejaz-Ul-Haq refused to divulge anything
about the incident to journalists present at the scene. Pakistan Muslim
League (PML) has decided the names of candidates for 109 constituencies
of the National Assembly in Punjab Province.
PML Finance Secretary Imtiaz Ranjha while briefing the media persons at
the conclusion of Board Meeting on Friday said the names of candidates
for 39 remaining constituencies of the National Assembly in Punjab would
be decided tomorrow (Saturday). He said, “Hopefully candidates for all
the constituencies of the National Assembly would be decided within
couple of days.” The constituencies and names of candidates are NA-52
Raja Nasir, NA-53 Ghulam Sarwar Khan, NA-54 Raja Basharat, NA-55 Sheikh
Rashid Ahmed, NA-56 Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, NA-57 Malik Amin Aslam, NA-60
