‘Policy being devised for industrialization of the country’

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, Salman Taseer has emphasized the need for accelerating the process of development in engineering sector as it contributes towards the economic progress of the country.
He expressed these views during his visit to Engineering Development Board (EDB) here on Thursday. The minister described engineering section as most important for the future of Pakistan and directed that the board should expand its activities so that major sub-sectors of engineering could be developed.
During his interaction with General Managers of the board Taseer informed thme that the Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives was preparing comprehensive industrial policy for rapid industrialization of the country and invited EDB to provide necessary inputs for it.
Noting the importance of the steel in development of engineering sector, he said that country needs more steel mills to cater to the raw material needs of the industry.
On the occasion, CEO, EDB Almas Haider briefed the Minister about the history of the Board and Engineering Vision while Zahid J. Yaqoob, General Manager (Policy) gave presentation on EDB’s working, achievements and future plans.
The CEO highlighted various issues of engineering sector and informed him that the board was ready to present five-year vision of each sub-sectors of engineering after successfully introducing the same in auto sector.
The Minister assured of his full support to EDB in meeting national targets. Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Shahab Khawaja and Additional Secretary, Abdul Hafeez Ch were also present in the meeting.
