China to monitor prosecutors behavior

BEIJING—China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) has ordered its prosecutors to mind their behavior and be well disciplined in law enforcement, the Beijing News reported on Thursday.
The report said the SPP issued a regulation in October which says that it will soon set up a special supervision committee to check the behavior of prosecutors and make sure that procuratorial power is exercised lawfully. The regulation was aimed to weed out corruption, power abuse and rude behavior, which “have so far not been completely eliminated among prosecutors”, the newspaper quoted Shi Shenglong, head of the SPP branch of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, as saying.
According to the regulation, inspectors will be allowed to conduct public and private investigations, or use any other legal means to fulfill their duty. They will be allowed to follow prosecutors in law enforcement activities, conduct on-the-spot supervision and stop any violations, which might “impair the image” of procuratorial departments.—Xinhua
