ITP claims 33% reduction in accidents

ISLAMABAD—Special squads constituted by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have been successful in bringing down the accident ratio this year as compared to the same period during the last year.
The policemen in these squads are conducting checking operations at all the main roads of the federal Capital round-the- clock in various shifts. The main objective of these squads is to control red signal violation, over-speeding and maintain traffic discipline. Owing the efforts of these special squads, 32.93 per cent reduction in fatal road accidents has been noted and 58.50 reduction in non-fatal road accidents during this year.
Likewise, number of causalities occurred due to road accidents also reduced to 41.75 per cent and injuries to 38.54 per cent in 2007 as compared to the corresponding period in 2006. Meanwhile, the SSP (Traffic) said special squads are functioning in different zones to check lane violation and jumping the signals especially during night hours.
