EC seeks
lists for reserved seats by 24th
ISLAMABAD—Election Commission of Pakistan Wednesday sought from the
political parties, the lists of nominated candidates for the seats
reserved for women and non-Muslims.
These lists of candidates for the National and ProvincialAssemblies,
have to provided to the Commission in order of priority on or before
November 24, 2007.
Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner has
invited the attention of the political parties to the provisions of
Article 8F of the Conduct of General Elections Order, 2002 read with
Section 47A of the representation of the People Act, 1976. These
provisions call for providing that list of nominatedcandidates in order
of priority for the seats reserved for Women and non-Muslims in the
National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies.
These lists are to be submitted to the Chief ElectionCommissioner or, as
he may direct to the Provincial Election Commissioners, who shall
forthwith cause such Lists to be published for information of the public
at large.
The parties lists may contain as many names of additionalcandidates as a
political party may deem necessary for contestingelection to the seats
reserved for Women and non-Muslims to provide for any disqualification
of candidates during scrutiny of nomination papers of filling of any
vacant seat during the term of NationalAssembly and the Provincial
Assemblies, as the case may be.
All political parties, which are taking part in GeneralElections,
2007-08 should submit separate lists of their candidatesin order of
priority for seats reserved for non-Muslims in the National Assembly of
Pakistan with the Joint Secretary (Admn), Election Commission
Secretariat, Islamabad, the returning Officerfor the seats reserved for
non-Muslims in the National Assembly onor before the said date.—Agencies
