By Uzma Zafar

ISLAMABAD—Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) would provide health insurance facility to all the ITP personnel and an agreement has been reached with the Askari Insurance Company for the provision of health insurance to all the force personnel.
These views were expressed by Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), ITP Zubair Hashmi here on Monday during a press conference. The SSP further said the facility would also cover the families of the ITP personnel including their spouses, parents and children. In case of any disease, the ITP would bear the expense of Rs. 100,000 while this assistance could exceed upto Rs. 200,000 in case of any serious epidemics, he added. “In case of demise of any employee of the force, the ITP would provide assistance upto Rs. 500,000 while Rs. one million would be provided in case of accidental death,” he said adding that in case of an accidental death, this assistance would be alongside the help provided by the government. The officer further informed that there would be no deductionfrom the salaries of the officials of the police force for the health insurance as it is being provided under the ITP welfare fund.
“This programme aims at providing immediate relief to the force personnel and keeping their moral high as they perform their duties under tough circumstances,” he maintained. Zubair Hashmi further said the ITP Medical Dispensary would also be established while an agreement has been inked with Shifa International Hospital for free examination by specialist doctors.
He said the family members of the force personnel acrosscountry could benefit from more than 90 major hospitals in 15 cities on the panel of the ITP after this health insurance agreement. Keeping in view the requirements of the ITP, 4.2 acre land worth Rs. 92 million has been acquired near Faizabad where a Police Driving School, Barracks for 240 officials and flats for 256officers would be established. He said the building would be named as ITP Complex andMinistry of Interior would be responsible for payment of the land tothe CDA. He said the ITP officials would also be given pick and drop facility and four vans would be allocated for the purpose.
Commenting over the attitude of the ITP officials, the SSPconfessed there had been some complaints. “Major complaints we have received are against those officialswho joined the ITP on deputation. Actually they want to go back due to the non-compliance of the allowances pledged to them earlier; some of those officials have been sent back to their parent departments while few more have been identified which would be sentback soon.
“The moral of the ITP officials was down earlier due to thenon-compliance of the allowances but now the provision of theallowances has been approved which would help lift the moral of theforce,” the SSP said. He said the elimination of VIP culture is our slogan and we would ensure equal application of law against all the commuters. Following this concept, he added, nobody is considered above the law.
