EC working effectively for free, fair election: Dilshad

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Kunwar Muhammad Dilshad on Sunday said that the Election Commission was playing its role for holding free and fair election constitutionally and legally.
In an interview with state-run TV Channel, Secretary CEC said that a meeting of all parties would be summoned today (Monday) to devise the strategy and code of conduct for upcoming general election. All parties have been invited to attend the meeting, he added.
Kunwar Dilshad said that the election schedule to be announced after dissolution of assemblies of the four provinces.
He said that mistake-free voter lists had been prepared by the Election Commission in which 80 million voters had been registered. After endorsement of Supreme Court on voter lists, there will be no room of criticism on it, he maintained.
On training for the staff, he said that EU and Commonwealth had expressed their satisfaction on the preparations of the election and after criticism of the opposition parties, machinery of the Election Commission were being utilized effectively.
No negligence will be tolerated in holding free and fair election and emergency in the country will not create hurdles on this account as the election had been held in the country under emergency, he pointed out.
He said that it was responsibility of the political parties to help the Election Commission for preparing of code of ethics for election.
He said that at least fifty thousands booklets had been published for code of ethic for holding election and stressed on opposition parties to study it for recommendations. —Online
