Army plays draw against KRL

LAHORE—Defending Champion Pakistan Army kept their unbeaten record intact but this time settled for a scoreless draw against star-studded Khan Research Laboratories in Pakistan premier football league at Army Stadium, Rawalpindi on Saturday.
According to information provided here by Pakistan Football Federation it was seventh match for both the teams and still the soldiers are on top with 15 points, one point adrift from KRL. Army had yet to concede a goal in the event and it was tense moments for them when KRL’s spearhead Abdul Qadeer fumbled two easy chances in the 17th and 65th minute. Army’s keeper Mehmood put up fine show and also thwarted the moves of Muhammad Essa, Adeel Ahmed, Muhammad Rasool and Shahid Ahmed. KRL’s keeper Amir Qureshi was also alert under the bar. Pakistan Navy jumped to third spot with 3-2 win over PTV at Islamabad ‘s Jinnah Stadium. They earned 12 points in the league, followed by fourth-placed KPT and Pakistan WAPDA, who have three games in hand. PTV had to undergo their fifth defeat in the event and they recorded six points from seven matches.
The excitement in Pakistan Football Federation League continued with Baloch Club and Panther FC winning matches. Faisalabad’s Panther FC managed their second successive win in Group-A with 1-0 win at their own ground against Pak Elektron limited (PEL) who made debut in National Soccer, and failed to reduce Panther’s first-half strike goal.
The lone goal emerged in the 36th minute when FIFA Referee Rana Naseer Ahmed penalized PEL for a reckless challenge and awarded a penalty-kick. Striker Muhammad Illahi went up to make no mistake from golden opportunity.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Police put up sub-standard display against ancient Baloch Club, Quetta at Ayub Stadium, Quetta and went down 0-2. The local club had a dream start taking second minute lead through midfieldfer Ejaz Shah. Striker Abdul Qadir consolidated the lead in the 35th minute.
