20 killed in Kurram Agency clashes

KARAM AGENCY—At least 20 persons were killed and more than one hundred wounded in sectarian clashes here in Karamagency and curfew has been imposed in the area. Sectarian clashes started when unidentified terrorist stopped passenger coach bound to Sadda from Peshawar near Parachinar and started indiscriminate firing after off loading the passenger. As a result 20 persons were dead on the spot.
The authorities said that curfew has been imposed in the area due to worsening situation of law and order in agency. The authorities further told that seven dead bodies were brought to hospital while more than ninety injured have been admitted to hospital for treatment. The NWFP Governor Lt. Gen (R) Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai, presided over a high level meeting, held at Governor’s House on Saturday to review the law and order in Kurram Agency and Malakand Division.
The Governor was given a briefing on the recent developments in Parachinar and was told that the situation in the town was well under control and efforts were being made to contain the violence in some of the surrounding areas. The meeting held detailed discussion on the situation and suggestedboth short and long term measures to bring normalcy to the Agency.—Agencies
Talking on the occasion, the Governor said that the administration initiated prompt action soon after the violence erupted in Parachinar by putting the security forces in action to contain violence and ensure safety and security of the law abiding citizens. He stressed upon the administration and Law enforcing Agencies to focus on the conflict area.
