5-years term of assemblies

ISLAMABAD—National Assembly was dissolved on Thursday after completing
its five-years of its tenure. Outgoing Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and
his cabinet members, advisors, special advisors, Parliamentary
Secretaries and chairmen of Standing Committees have also been
dissolved.
The 342 parliamentarians took their oath on November 2002 and now this
assembly stands dissolved on 15 November 2007 at 0000hrs, midnight. PM,
Shaukat Aziz was leading the 60 -member Cabinet and he retained the
portfolio of Ministry of Finance in his hands.
The National Assembly, after completing its constitutional term, stands
dissolved from mid night between Thursday and Friday. In all, forty four
sessions of the national assembly were held during the past five years
tenure of the assembly, the first to complete its mandated tenure. The
house transacted tremendous legislation for the benefit of the people.
It has passed five budgets and fifty bills.
The bills include National Security Council, Political Parties Amendment
Act, Women Protection Act and Law Reforms Act. Two hundred and twenty
two ordinances were laid before the house. During the question hour more
than forty seven thousand questions were put before the house raising
different issues relating to the public concerns. The House also adopted
five thousand five hundred and thirty-eight resolutions relating to the
national and international issues.
The National Assembly also adopted 17th amendment and gave vote of
confidence to the President in 2004 and the members cast their votes in
the Presidential Election on 6th of last month. The Provincial
Assemblies of the Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan are being dissolved on
the 20th of this month, while the NWFP assembly already stands
dissolved. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz held a farewell meeting with
President General Pervez Musharraf at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, official sources
informed on Thursday.
The President lauded the contributions of Mr. Shaukat Aziz in the fast
track socio-economic development of the country through far reaching
economic reforms which yielded enormous socio-economic benefits and
improved the quality of life of the people. The President underlined
that excellent working relations between their offices were unparalleled
and smooth. |
