SC suspends convictions in ex-CJ manhandling case
By Asghar Ali Mubarak

ISLAMABAD—A 10-member bench of the Supreme Court, while hearing appeals of seven police and administration officials in the case manhandling of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammd Chaudhry, suspended the convictions till a final decision of the court.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar earlier admitted the intra-court appeals for hearing and adjourned the case to a date in office. It also made it clear that the convictions would have no adverse effect on the services of all the seven officers till the final decision of the court.
The officers appeared before the bench and remained present during the proceedings. Mujibur Rehman, counsel for IG Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed and SSP Zafar Iqbal, reiterating unconditional apologies submitted earlier by the convicts, requested for suspension of the judgment convicting the officers. The bench accepted the request to the extent of suspension of the convictions and not the judgment.
Raja Ibrahim Satti represented DSP Jamil Hashmi and made similar submissions. Raja Bashir Ahmed appeared on behalf of chief commissioner Khalid Parvez, who is currently secretary cooperative department of Punjab, and deputy commissioner Muhammad Ali.
