Chairman PCP Javed Iqbal calls on Durrani

ISLAMABAD—Chairman of the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP), Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal, till recently a judge of the Supreme Court, called on the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani at his office here on Thursday.
In his first meeting after his appointment as Chairman Press Council, he said that the freedom of press, with certain responsibilities towards the nation and the country, is enshrined in the Constitution and that he firmly believed that a strong and responsible media is key to the development of a society.
The Pakistani media has a rich history of evolution and development to its credit, he observed.
The Federal Minister, who was also accompanied by the Minister of State Tariq Azim Khan and Secretary Information and Broadcasting Syed Anwar Mahmood, expressed the hope that the appointment of Justice Javed Iqbal augurs well for the government-press relations and would go a long way in achieving the objectives of the Press Council of Pakistan. President All Pakistan Newspapers Society, Hameed Haroon, Secretary General Islamabad CPNE, Wamiq Zuberi, President PFUJ, Huma Ali and Secretary General Islamabad Press Club Afzal Butt were also present on the occasion and reposed confidence in the new Chairman Press Council. They assured their full cooperation to him in the performance of his institutional duties.
