Polls planned for 6th Jan

ISLAMABAD—Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to hold the upcoming general election on 6th January 2008.
Election Commission of Pakistan will announce the date for the general election on November 19th as the government has decided to the dissolve the Provincial Assemblies on 18th of November instead of 20th November 2007. Chief Ministers of all the four Provinces have been sent directives in this connection.
Sources said that President, in his press conference on 11th November had decided to dissolve the assemblies on 18th of November instead of 20th November. The Election on National Assembly seats and Provincial Assemblies seats will be held simultaneously on a single day. Outgoing Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will contest the election from Kashmore.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that all political parties must abide by the election commission’s code of conduct so that real democratic culture emerges in the society. In an exclusive interview with PTV, the Prime Minister said that elections were also held under the emergency in the past. He said the PML government and its allies worked hard with sincerity and commitment for the welfare of the country and its people.—Online
