PPP will be eliminated in polls, says Elahi

HAFIZABAD—“The PPP’s chapter of politics would be closed once and for all after the general elections in which masses would discard former prime minister Benazir Bhutto due to her anti-state interests and postures”, said Ch Pervez Elahi, Chief Minister of the Punjab.
He was addressing a big public meeting here after laying the foundation stone of Rs 807-million project of widening and improvement of Hafizabad-Gujranwala Road, Hafizabad-Neushera Virkan Road, an underpasss costing Rs. 170 million.
He recently released funds for the projects. He said that Ms Benazir Bhutto has great lust for power but people were now wide awake and conscious enough and would vote for those who served them during the past nine years under the dynamic leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf.
He questioned where she was when thousands of Pakistanis were killed by horiffic earthquake and floods. “She spent luxurious life in foreign countries where as the PML govt. made unprecedented progress and raised the image of the country in the community of nations”, he said.
Recalling his efforts for the betterment of people, he said that the government waived off land revenue upto the owners of 12-1/2 acres of land, ensured irrigational water to reach tail-enders plus 50 per cent remission in water tax (abiana) as a result of which food output has been increased.
Following prudent policies, he said books were provided free of cost in 65000 schools in the Punjab and tuition fee was waived upto Matric level, resulting in 3 million more admissions in government schools in first class this year. He said that he awarded proprietary rights to the occupants of “katchi abadi’ which was a long standing demand of the poors. Enumerating various steps taken by the government regarding poverty alleviation, he said 4,60,000 poor and destitute in the Punjab have been rehabilitated. He declared that the PML would sweep the general elections on the basis of to its performance. Referring to development made in the district, he said that he has provided RS. 1309 million for 800 kilometres road network in the Hafizabad besides providing billions for health, education and other sectors. Huge funds were provided for gas in this district, he added.
He appealed to his audience to vote for honest and dedicated political workers during the next elections and declared that only PML can safeguard the ideological and geological frontiers of the country while PPP and such other parties were out only to grab powers for their vested interests.
Earlier, Ch. Mehdi Hassan Bhatti MNA and president District PML, Ch Muzaffar Ali Sheikh Chairman, Punjab Assembly Health Standing Committee, District Nazim Mubashar Abbas Bhatti and others told him that Hafizabad is an invincible fortress of PML which won all the five MNAs/MPs, District Nazim and Tehsil Nazim/s and by the grace of Almighty they will win all the seats in the forthcoming elections.
