SC admits petitions against emergency

ISLAMABAD—An 8-member full court of the Supreme Court here Monday admitted for hearing a petition challenging the proclamation of emergency and issued notices to the respondents and the Attorney General.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, after a brief preliminary hearing, issued notices to Federation of Pakistan, President, Chief of Army Staff, Chairman PEMRA and Attorney General. The full court decided to hear together the two petitions filed by a politician and former provincial minister Tikka Iqbal Mohammad Khan and the Watan Party.
The court fixed the next hearing of the case for November 15. Attorney General Malik Mohammad Qayyum, who was present in the courtroom during the proceedings, accepted the notice to assist the court. The full court comprises Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokar, Justice M. Javed Buttar, Justice Ejaz ul Hassan Khan, Justice Qaim Mohammad Jan Khan, Justice Musa K. Leghari and Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Yousuf. Irfan Qadir, lawyer for Tikka Iqbal Mohammad Khan, presented the mainpoints of the petition.
