TEVTA to train 25,000 in fourth phase
By Bushara Makhdoom
RAWALPINDI—As many as 25,000 youth will get technical training in Punjab
in the fourth phase of Special Training Programme of Technical Education
and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), which will start soon, an
official said on Sunday.
“The decision in this regard has been taken after studying results of
past three phases which have remained very encouraging,” Secretary TEVTA
Muhammad Arshad Bhatti said.
He said under government’s directive TEVTA had introduced the Special
Training Programme in the first quarter of the current year to produce
one lakh semi-skilled force for the industry. “So far about 75,000
semi-skilled workers have got training under this programme,” he added.
“Under this programme youth from low income groups are being trained in
different trades, which is not only helping them in getting jobs but
also assisting the industry to meet the emerging demand of skilled
workers,” he added.
Arshad Bhatti said TEVTA’s all programmes were market-oriented and the
Authority had developed a system to arrange jobs for trained youth
according to the level of their learning.
“A big number of our trained youth are getting jobs in the local
industry, while there are many others who go abroad to earn livelihood
there in a respectable way,” he said.
Having a strong network of over 400 institutes across Punjab, TEVTA has
now introduced Matric Technical Scheme at selective TEVTA institutes in
35 districts of the province.
Students are being offered different technical trades as an optional
subject such as electronics, welding, refrigeration and air
conditioning. |
