Security lock-up in twin cities

RAWALPINDI—The residents of twin cities remain confined to their homes as Islamabad and Rawalpindi was virtually sealed off by the Punjab and Islamabad Police to prevent people from participating in PPP's public meeting at Rawalpindi's Liaqat Bagh.
While talking to Journalists, City Police Officer Saud Aziz on Friday said that Section 144 has been imposed all over the province by Punjab Government to avoid any untoward incident.
He said that the entire city has been sealed and more than 8500 police force has been deployed in the city so that no unpleasant incident occurs.
He said that comprehensive checking is made at all the entry and exit points of twin cities.
He said that all the roads going towards Liaqat Bagh have been sealed while additional police has been deployed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to intercept the people heading towards Liaqat Bagh.
However he said that there is no bar on the movement of ambulances and media personnel. No one will be allowed to take law in their hands, he held.
More than 3,000 Security Officials have been deployed while Liaqat Bagh and Murree Road is presenting an isolated look with only Men in Blue seen.
Saud Aziz also told that so far 35 people including PPP workers have been arrested on temporary grounds.
Some of the arrested have been identified as Sardar Shaukat Hayat advocate, MNA Zulfikar Ali Gondal, MPA Ch Mushtaq, Col. Mohammad Anwar Afridi, Haji Liaqat, Anjum Ali Khan and Ahmed Khan. Sources said that some 2000 Rangers and 1000 Personnel of the Punjab Constabulary have been deployed in Islamabad.
It has been further told that main gate of Liaqat Bagh has been closed while nearby local hotels vacated.
All kinds of traffic going to Rawalpindi has been suspended in this regard.
