PPP to continue struggle for democracy: Sherry

ISLAMABAD—Information Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party, Sherry Rehman has said that her party wanted to observe peaceful demonstration in Liaquat Bagh but the Government by using all machinery to stop the public gathering proved that it is against the democracy.
Talking to media men here on Friday, the Information Secretary of PPP has vowed to continue struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country and said the Government by adopting negative tactics cannot suppress their resolve in this regard.
She said that over 3,000 PPP workers were arrested by the Government to stop them from participating in the Liaquat Bagh public gathering.
Commenting on the negotiations with the Government, Sherry Rehman said PPP started the talks for the restoration of the democracy but no talks are underway at the moment.
She said that President Musharraf should leave the post of Army Chief and hold the general elections in time, adding other demands include lifting of the emergency and withdrawing of Provincial Constitutional Order (PCO) and reinstatement of all deposed judges to their posts including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
PPP Information Secretary said that her party wants democracy in the country and all the political parties should support the party in its struggle for the restoration of the democracy.
