Media men protest for independent media

ISLAMABAD—Media men, against the imposition of restrictions on electronic and print media in the cover of emergency, held a protest camp before Islamabad Press Club at Melody Chok, on Friday.
According to learnt information, a large number of journalists took part in the demonstration. The demonstrators and their leaders condemned in strong words the recent steps of incumbent government and reiterated their stance that restrictions on media, of any form, would not be accepted.
PFUJ Secretary General Mazhar Abbas, RIUJ President Afzal Butt, Islamabad Press Club President Rashid Minhas, Talat Hussain, Kashif Abbasi, Hamid Mir, Huma Ali, were among the speakers on this occasion.
All speakers demanded end of emergency, independence of Judiciary and of Media immediately. Former Federal Minister J Salik was also present on this occasion.
Later, it was announced that all media men would get together before the building of a private TV channel today (Saturday), at 2 pm, from where, they would march towards the Headquarter of PEMRA to record their protest. At the end of the protest march, media men, through consensus, will announce future strategy at Press Club Melody Camp Office.
