Journalists observe Black Day

PESHAWAR—Against the amendments in PEMRA and PPO ordinance, Black Day was observed under the aegis of Khyber Union of Journalists in Peshawar like other parts of the country on the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist. The journalists community performed their officials responsibilities by wearing black band on their arms while black flags were hoisted and banners were displayed on the building of Peshawar Press Club. All the Government’s functions were boycotted by the journalists. Police officials in a great number have been deployed outside of the Press Club aimed to stop the journalists from holding of the protest, therefore, the members of Khyber Union of Journalists suddenly gathered on Mall Road and protested against the Government’s steps. The journalists later protested in the limits of the Press Club and demanded of the Government to remove restrictions on private TV Channels and newspapers immediately. The protestors on the occasion raised slogans against PEMRA Ordinance and PPO and demanded their withdrawn. The speakers on the occasion said that freedom of expression is our right and our struggle in this regard would continue, adding that the Government with the use of force cannot suppress the media.—Agencies
