underlines threats to security

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the country is
facing new threats and security challenges which need a significant role
of police to meet them effectively.
He was addressing passing out parade of Assistant Superintendents of
Police at National Police Academy here on Wednesday. The Prime Minister
said the people have lot of expectations from Police and they should
serve the nation with diligence, honesty, dedication and commitment to
ensure protection of life of the people.
He said at this juncture when the country is moving ahead towards rapid
economic growth, police has a crucial role to play for maintaining
peace, providing security and ensuring law and order for socio-economic
development. Mr. Shaukat Aziz said that in changing scenario and keeping
in view of the security challenges, police will have to be regrouped to
meet these challenges in an effective manner.
He said these challenges demand highest level of commitment, dedication
and integrity from law enforcing agencies.
The Prime Minister said to ensure speedy economic growth, attract
foreign investment and protection of life of the people besides peace is
of prime importance and the security agencies have to play their vital
role with great enthusiasm and professionalism. He said the police have
also to face the menace of extremism and terrorism besides rapid growth
of population that is creating new challenges.
Mr. Shaukat Aziz said the government has introduced police reforms with
a view to further improve the efficiency and efficacy of the
organisation and depoliticise it. He asked the Police that it should
work to implement the national agenda that is safety and security of the
country and should take action against those who are working the
interest of the country.
Mr. Shaukat Aziz praised those police officials who shown resilience and
laid their lives for the sake of country and nation. He also appreciated
Islamabad Police for its remarkable job besides traffic police of the
capital for its tremendous performance.
He announced ten big police vehicles for transportation of constables
and Islamabad police for their duty. He also announced to provide
additional land to the National Police Academy for its training purpose
besides ten million rupees for the development of the academy.
Earlier Commandant National Police Academy Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqub in
his welcome address highlighted the performance of the academy and its
future programmes for the training of police officials.
He said seventeen ASPs are being passed out from the academy today while
police officers from Afghanistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Maldives
are getting training in the academy.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday pointing at the security
challenges facing the country asked the police to enhance their role in
maintaining law and order and protecting lives of the citizens.
“Our internal security environment is beset with multidimensional
challenges - terrorism, extremism, sectarianism, geo-political cross
currents ... The police force has a pivotal role to play in meeting
these daunting challenges,” the Prime Minster said while addressing the
passing-out parade of Assistant Superintendents of Police under the 33rd
Common Training Programme at National Police Academy.
The Prime Minister said internal security was critical, not only for
territorial integrity but also for the country’s socio- economic
progress.
