CEC briefs US envoy on polls
ISLAMABAD—Chief Election Commissioner Qazi Muhammad Farooq briefed the
US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Patterson about the preparations for
general elections, here on Tuesday.
On this occasion, both sides discussed matters regarding the conduct of
general elections in the country.
The Chief Election Commissioner told the US ambassador that elections
would be held in accordance with the law and constitution. The Election
Commission has made all the arrangements in this regard.
Later talking to media, the US ambassador said her country would extend
every possible cooperation for timely holding of elections in Pakistan.
United States Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson met Chief Election
Commissioner Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq on Tuesday and discussed
matters related to general elections in Pakistan.
Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Dilshad told a private
television that Patterson asked about the preparations made by the
Election Commission to conduct polls. Dilshad said the Election
Commissioner told the ambassador that the Election Commission was ready
to fulfill its legal and constitutional obligations for holding of
polls.
Election Commission has prepared the electoral rolls and acquired the
transparent ballot boxes. The Commission has also sent a draft code of
conduct to the political parties, Dilshad quoted CEC as saying.—Online
