President, PM discuss post-emergency scenario

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz met president general Pervez Musharraf in Aiwan-e-Sadr and exchanged views with him on post emergency scenario in the country.
Sources told The Daily Mail that both the leaders termed the rumors about change in top military brass baseless saying some elements were misleading the people for the sake of their personal interests. There is complete unanimity of views between among top military command, president and prime minister on all maters of national importance, they added.
President Musharraf took the prime minister into confidence on his meeting with foreign diplomats and told that the foreign diplomats were well aware of the problems and challenges, which led to imposition of emergency.
President underscored democratic process would continue despite imposition of emergency and it would be endeavor of the government that situation could improve as soon as possible so that general elections could be held and an elected government installed.
President hoped that all the negative impacts, the prevailing situation had left on the stock market and economy of the country would soon be overcome. Security measures have been taken for protection of life and property of the people and government will ensure rule of law in the country, he stressed.
Sources told Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz while expressing full confidence on the president held out assurance that the process of economic development would continue unhindered despite imposition of emergency and the nefarious designs of the elements involved in launching negative propaganda would be thwarted.
A host of issues including war on terror, law and order situation, activities of political parties, new code of conduct in regard to media and other matters also came under discussion.
Both the president and prime minister said government believed in freedom of press. However media should realize its responsibility and implementation of code of conduct devised for press be ensured, they maintained.
APP Adds: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday called on President General Pervez Musharraf here at the Aiwan-e- Sadr and discussed the prevailing political and security situation in the country.
They emphasized the need for holding of free and fair elections in a peaceful atmosphere. They expressed the confidence that the Code of Conduct circulated by the Election Commission of Pakistan as well as the security code issued by the Ministry of Interior would pave the way for successful completion of the election process.
While reviewing the law and order situation, it was felt that normalcy prevailed throughout the country and the people attended their normal activities, a press release issued from the PM House said.
They also discussed measures taken in Swat and FATA to address the situation and to curb extremism.
The meeting also discussed various aspects of the emergency rule and emphasized upon the need for closer cooperation and collaboration between the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary in the larger national interest.
