ISLAMABAD—After promulgation of Emergency and restrictions on media, journalists have boycotted all official proceedings on Monday.
Due to this boycott, ministry of foreign affairs was forced to shelve its weekly briefings, while the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of Baba Fareed Bridge over River Sutlej held at the PM secretariat also received no press and media coverage. Despite the fact that PM, Shaukat Aziz inaugurated the ceremony, the journalists and media personnel, including cameramen and photographers lest earlier after recording their protests. The PID (Press Information Department), which falls under the ministry of information and broadcasting Continued managed to contact some journalists and business managers, who were regular beneficiaries of governmental advertisement quota and cover the event. The president of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Press club strongly condemned this participation, and vowed to carry on the protest of journalists against the promulgation of martial law.
