Govt committed to welfare of special persons

ISLAMABAD—The government is committed to thewelfare and rehabilitation of special persons aimed at bringing social revolution in the country.
This was stated by Secretary Social Welfare and Special Education, Rasool Bakhsh Baloch while speaking at a seminar on “Disability Prevention, Rehabilitation and Management for Personswith Disabilities” here Monday.
The event was organized by National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW) in collaboration with Organization for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities to mobilize the NGOs to work for the welfare of challenged persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Social Welfare saidspecial people are important segment of our society and their active participation is necessary for the country’s development.
He said, the Ministry has developed a “National Policy forPersons with Disabilities - 2002”, adding, it ensures the provision of equal opportunities to special persons, expansion of services relating to employment and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
He said our ultimate goal is the empowerment of persons withdisabilities irrespective of the caste, creed, sex, race andreligion for the realization of full potential in all walks of life including socio-economic and political.
Rasool Baloch said “We are striving for the creation of anenvironment that would allow full realization of their abilitiescapabilities and potentials”.
He said we are fully aware of the training and capacitybuilding needs of the individuals with disabilities, institutionsand organizations. Chairman NCSW Rais Jahangir Ahmed, senior officials fromMinistry and representatives from various NGOs were also present.
