‘No legality of decision of seven ceased SC judges’

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi Monday said that after proclamation of PCO the verdict issued by seven ceased judges of the Supreme Court has no legal status. Speaking in a PTV programme, the Minister said that superior courts will start functioning by today (Monday) as the Chief Justices and judges of Supreme Court as well as High Courts have already taken the oath of their offices under PCO.
He said that after this development there is no legality of the decisions by individual or a group of judges. Niazi said that opposition political parties, under the cover of judicial activism, were busy in promoting their vested interest adding it was an unfortunate situation which prompted the proclamation of emergency.
The Minister said that “Supreme Court had started functioning as supreme government”. He said that organizers of anti-government moves were getting financial assistance from abroad. To a question, the Minister said that media organizations after giving commitment to observe the code of ethics, were continuously violating the same. He said they were fully partial in their view and analysis and some mediapersons had even started to dictate their point of view to the government.—APP
