0.2m children to be immunized against polio

ISLAMABAD—Under 4th national polio immunization campaign as many as 0.2 million children will be immunized in the federal capital, Project coordinator Dr. Mohsin of Directorate of Health Service (DHS), Capital Development Authority (CDA) said here Friday.
He said 500 mobile teams of DHS in collaboration with Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Plan International a non governmental organization are being moved house-to-house through out the capital to vaccinate targeted population. He said the directorate has also set up 100 fix points and 39 transit points including public transport stops across the federal capital, where children under age of five are being vaccinated against the disease.
Dr. Mohsin said that the campaign has been extended for two-day to vaccinate the remaining children who could not be vaccinated for any reason.
He said “Pakistan can be the next country in the world to eradicate polio and our concerted efforts are being made in this regard.” “The number of children affected by polio has been reduced from thousands of cases, when we first stared this campaign, down to 17 cases to date this year country-wide and zero cases here in the federal capital.”
During the campaign 23 million children up to five years were vaccinated across the country. Sources told in this regard that millions of children mostly belonged to NWFP especially Swat besides the districts of South Punjab included Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Liyah were not vaccinated.
