President to take oath as civilian, says

RAWALPINDI—Minister for railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said president
general Pervez Musharraf will take the oath as civilian president at
opportune time following Supreme Court (SC) decision.
"President will take the oath as civilian president when the appropriate
time comes after the SC decision", he said this while talking to the
journalists here Friday after inauguration ceremony of replacement and
repairs of dilapidated water pipelines project.
Replying to a question he said general elections would take place as per
schedule despite suicide attacks in different parts of the country. This
is their own thinking if people say that it is the tactics of the
government to postpone the election, he added.
Responding to a question about emergency, he said no decision had been
taken to impose any emergency or take any unconstitutional step in the
country. He ruled out possibility of imposition of emergency.
About Benazir Bhutto sudden departure to Dubai he said " I had earlier
stated she would continue to travel to and back from Dubai.
Earlier addressing the inauguration ceremony he said " it is my desire
that every Nazim be given Rs 500000 for development projects in every
union council. " Whatever promise I had made with the people of
Rawalpindi I had delivered", he underscored. " We are now moving towards
improvement in the condition of hospitals following the completion of
project of educational institutions in Rawalpindi, he told. Mother and
child hospital is being built at the cost of Rs 2.35 billion on Eidgah
road. Nursing training will be imparted to 320 girls in this hospital,
he indicated. He informed work had started on Sheikh Rashid Express way
over Nullah Leh at the cost of Rs 16 billions.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Railway Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Friday
said that imposition of martial law will be a big mistake of the
government
Talking to a private TV channel he said that all options including
imposition of emergency were under consideration but no decision had
been taken yet. However imposition of martial law will be a big mistake
of the government.
He said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President of ruling PML had been
empowered to make decision according to law and constitution adding that
their decision would be accepted. He said party leaders had floated
different options in the meeting but decision had not been taken yet. |
