ISLAMABAD—Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has taken Suo Motto action under Article 184(3) of the Constitution o Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the bomb blasts in the political procession of PPP at Karachi resulting about 130 casualties and directed to fix the case for hearing on 1st November, 2007 along with the petition already filed on the subject.
As per media reports, 130 participants of a political procession, led by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto upon her return to Pakistan, lost their lives on the night between 18th - 19th October, 2007, after two deadly blasts rocked her motorcade on Shahra-e-Faisal, Karsaz Bridge, Karachi.
In addition to loss of life, more than 400 people received injuries in this explosion. Although, the country is already in the grip of suicidal bombing and other terrorist acts, yet, this is the most chilling and dreadful incident of its kind, targeting the entire leadership of a major political party of the country, and resulting in the unprecedented number of casualties in terms of deaths and injuries.
This incident has not only shaken the confidence of the entire nation, but it has also negatively affected the business environment in the country and resulted in a very poor projection of Pakistan in the world community.—Online
