Industrial estate for expatriates soon: Sarwar

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower Mr. Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that an Industrial Estate for Overseas Pakistanis at Motorway Chakri Interchange Rawalpindi would provide investment opportunities to Overseas Pakistanis investors.
Addressing a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)between Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) and Government of Punjab, held here on Wednesday, the Minister said that Overseas Pakistanis hadbeen demanding for an Industrial Estate having complete infrastructureand amenities for establishing industries. This issue was also come under discussion during the Overseas Pakistanis Investment Conference held in first March 2007 he added. The Managing Director Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Syed Nayyer Hasnain Haider and Secretary Investment and Commerce Government of Punjab Mr. Tahir Raza Naqvi signedon the MOU. Secretary Overseas Pakistanis Division Ms. Naheed Haider was also present in the ceremony.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that the role of Overseas Pakistanis in term of contributing Foreign Exchange in the economy of Pakistan was highly laudable. He said Pakistan has earned more than 17 billion dollarthrough export, while Overseas Pakistanis had remitted 6 billion dollar to Pakistan. He said that President Gen. Pervez Musharraf had desiredthat industrial estate should be set up in far flung areas to provide job opportunities to the poor people. He said that mostly the motorway interchanges would be utilized for this purposes in future.
While highlighting the features of Industrial Estate, he said that Chakri Industrial Estate will spread over 1000 acres in first phase on
Pakistan Motorway (MII). The Government of Punjab will provide land, while OPF will develop and provide complete infrastructure facilities. Federal Government would guarantee the provision of all basic utilities for the scheme like water, gas, electricity and telephone and also ensure similar incentives for this Industrial Estate as allowed toChines specific zone in the country.
