Tareen commends NPIW team

ISLAMABAD—Industries Minister Jahangir Tareen has commended the project
directors and other officials of National Program for Improvement of
Watercourses (NPIW) for the great work they have done for timely
implementation of the project.
Chairing a meeting to review progress of NPIW, the minister said
National Program for Improvement of Watercourses is a real success as
more watercourses have been lined than the actual targets. Among others,
Secretary Industries Shahab Khawaja also attended the meeting.
National Project Director in his presentation told the meeting that the
target set for Financial Years 2004-05 to 2006-07 was to line 38,200
watercourses across the country but the NPIW has been able to line more
watercourses than the actual targets. The total watercourses lined
during this period are 41,459, he added. The meeting was informed that
total funds released for this period was Rs. 19, 713.747 million of
which 8,306.148 million for Punjab, 3,803.093 million for NWFP,
2,122.331 million for Balochistan, 5,132.399 million for Sindh, 63.454
million for FATA, 88.607 million for FANA and 44.565 million for ICT.
The target for 2007-08 is to line 18,700 more watercourses across the
country, the meeting was told.
Tareen also chaired another meeting to review progress of Clean Drinking
Water for All (CDWA) project. The Project Director gave a detailed
presentation about the status of bidding process, contracts and
implementation of the project. He told the meeting that the project is
ready for implementation in Sindh and Balochistan and efforts are
underway to implement it very soon in other areas of the country.
It was decided in the meeting that contract signing ceremony for Sindh
will be held on November 5. After this, a similar ceremony will be held
in Balochistan. |
