CAS Jr Squash Championship main round from 31st

PESHAWAR—The 21st edition of the Chief of the Air Staff Junior Squash Championship, carrying 0.5 million prize money, will be commencing from October 31 here at Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
Addressing a press conference Air Commodore Zia-ul-Hasan, who is also President of the Organizing Committee, informed the mediamen that it would be the 21st edition of the CAS Junior Open Squash Championship in which a record 224 players will take part. The arrival of the players has already been started because of the pre-qualifying round in the five different categories. Tournament Director (TD) and Director PAF Sports Control Board Group Capt. Iftikhar H. Sheikh and member of the organizing committee Wing Commander Farooq Bokhari were also present on this occasion.
Zia-ul-Hasan disclosed that all arrangements have been made well before the event. He said, 12 players will be the main round while other four players will make into the main round from the qualifying round in each category.
He said that the renovation work has already been completed in time and the all the 10 courts are in good condition to hold the event in befitting manners.
The qualifying rounds in each category were kicked off while the main round of all the five categories like U-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 will start from October 31, 2007.
The final and prize distribution ceremony of the Championship will held on November 3, 2007. He said PTV will also telecast the final live.For the smooth conduct of the event, a panel of umpires headed by chief referee Mehboob Khan, including Asim, Ibad, Fakhar Zaman, Habib Khan, Jehangir Khan, Kamran Khan and Pervez would supervise the matches. AVM Zia also thanked Habib Metro Bank and Ripples Mineral Water for sponsoring the event. He hoped that more peoples from private sector would come forward for the promotion of squash in the country.
SVP of the PSF AVM Asim will formally inaugurate the Championship at 3.00 p.m on October 31st while Deputy Chief of the Air Staff Administration Air Vice Marshal Waseemuddin will be the chief guest and will give away trophies and cash prizes.
The glimpses of the last year result in various categories are as under: -In the U-11 category, Muhammad Tabeeb won the title, followed by Farhan, Nasir Iqbal won the U-13 title, followed by Niamatullah, Nosherawan got the U-15 title while Aurangzeb took the runners-up trophy, Waqar Mehboob got the title in U-17, followed by Farhan Zaman while Farhan Mehboob won the title of the U-19 category while Faizan Rasheed got runners-up trophy.
