SC to hear Dr Anwar’s petition

ISLAMABAD—Supreme Court (SC) during the hearing of constitutional petitions challenging the acceptance of general Musharraf nomination papers by election commission for presidential elections has rejected the objections raised by registrar on the application of former doctor of PIMS, Dr Anwar ul Haq and admitted it for regular hearing.
During the hearing the senior judge of 11 members SC bench justice Khalil ur Rehman Ramday remarked if the court says one parliament can not re-elect the president for the second term then it will create anarchy and chaos in the country. President can expire or tender resignation during his tenure then what will happen this way, he further remarked.
When the court resumed the hearing, Hamid Khan, counsel for presidential candidate Justice (Retd) Wajih ud Din Ahmad submitted he had filed contempt of court application against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on behalf of his client, therefore, it also be heard. Justice Javed Iqbal observed “ we will give you opportunity after hearing both the sides”.
Dr Farooq Hassan counsel for Liaqat Baloch said Election Commissioner (EC) was not authorized to amend election rules-1988. CEC is not competent to issue September, 10 notification.
