HEC to organize courses for university administrators
By Bushra Makhdoom
ISLAMABAD—The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will organize courses to
improve the skills of university administrators, making them
well-equipped with modern educational tools, an HEC official said
Monday.
The official said a number of programmes initiated in recent years have
resulted in imparting effective training to young faculty in educational
administration and management skills.
He said the programmes were also aimed at assisting universities in
promoting a continued education system for their faculty and
administrators.
Under the programmes, special refresher courses and hands-on workshops
on governance and management of educational institutions are being held
for capacity building of varsity administrators.
He said all universities are upgrading capabilities to formulate and
implement projects aligned with their respective visions. The relevant
authorities are also developing performance based award and promotion
system in all cadres of university workforce.
Research management cells at the universities are being set up to manage
research, apply for international grants, commercialize research and
participate in national and international researchactivity, he said.
HEC is assisting all the educational institutions in identifying areas
requiring reform, identifying best practices, and suggesting mechanisms
for improvement, he added.
The official said function of the universities is to produce quality
graduates required by industry and all of them as a whole, must work to
identify the profile of their respective graduates.
He said this profile must be built in consultation with the potential
employers to ensure jobs for graduates as solid English verbal and
written communication and computer skills are the demands of the
industry.
He said HEC is evaluating the performance through various indicators
that include number of university administrators undergoing training
courses and percentage of projects rated as ‘Good’ by monitoring teams
for projects being undertaken by the universities. |
