Historical radio building gutted in blaze

KARACHI—A fire broke out at Karachi station of Radio Pakistan on Sunday, gutting a major portion of its building. The fire engulfed the studio flour of the broadcasting house. The transmission of the radio station was suspended and people evacuated soon after the incident. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The fire which broke out at Radio Pakistan Karachi Station on Sunday was controlled after more than an hour’s effort by fire tenders. Fifteen fire fighting vehicles and a snorkel struggled to bring the blaze under control, which erupted on the first floor of the two-storeyed building at M.A. Jinnah Road at around 1145 hours. The fire started from Studio No. 8.
Being Sunday many children alongwith comperes and relevant staff were present for recording of the weekly children’s programme, when the incident occurred. They were safely evacuated and nobody was injured. An official of Fire Service said it is believed that a short circuit might have caused the fire however, the possibility of any other cause will also be probed.
