EC to hear petition against Ghulam Sarwar today

ISLAMABAD—The election petition seeking disqualification of Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan from the constituency of NA-53 has been fixed for hearing in Lahore today (Monday) before an Election Tribunal headed by Justice Mian Hamid Farooq.
This election petition against the Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan was filed by his rival candidate Engineer Jameel Ahmad Malik, Chairman of the Communist Party of Pakistan, who contested election against him in General Elections of 2002.
On this hearing, the Election Tribunal will examine the whole education records of Islamia University Bahawalpur which Controller of Examinations Muhammad Shafiq would place before the Tribunal pertaining to the education of Minister Khan.
It may be recalled here that the election petition against Minister Khan was remanded to Tribunal on 26 September, 2006 by the Full Bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with a specific direction for decision of this case on merits within eight weeks.
Engineer Jameel is appearing in the court in person while Minister Sarwar Khan is being represented by Advocates Sheikh Zameer Hussain and Malik Noor Muhammad Awan.
