PEMRA closes 2 illegal cable operators

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Regional Office Islamabad in its recent drive close down two cable TV operators involved in illegal distribution of programmes without having any valid licence in Sagri and Gujar Khan areas in Rawalpindi District.
During the action the gadget /equipment of these cable operation were impound and their premises were sealed.
According to details WTN cable Network was operating in Sagri whereas, Potohar Cable Network was working in Gojar Khan without fulfilling the legitimate requirement of the licence from Authority. Reportedly hold both illegal cable operation were also involved in relaying objectionable programme in contravention to (PEMRA) code for media operators.
According to the PEMRA law, both the cable net work were also given reasonable warning to get themselves registered but they paid no heed to repeated warning of the Authority. The Authority as a last resort took action against both the violations and seized the equipment involved in un-authorised transmission of programmes. The action has been widely hailed by the general public.
In addition, during the month of Ramadan, PEMRA enforcement team included more than 150 surprise check on various CTV operations across the country and took punitive actions against operators violating the PEMRA law and sanctity of holy month of Ramadan.
