Pak, India to
release all civilians
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan and India will release all civilian prisoners and
fishermen whose status has been confirmed and have completed their
sentences, Interior Ministry official said. The two governments would
expedite the confirmation process and inform each other so that the
release could be made as early as possible, this was decided in
Pak-India recent meeting held in New Delhi early this week.
The official said a large number of Pakistani prisoners are still
languishing in Indian jails, despite completion of their sentences and
confirmation of their national status by Pakistani government. He said
Interior Ministry has confirmed status of 266 civilian prisoners and
travel documents of 157 civilian prisoners to Indian Ministry of
External Affairs.
During last five years, he said Pakistan has released 2,824 Indians
including fishermen and civilian prisoners while India has released 832
Pakistani’s.
Giving brief about the meeting’s output, he said during the meeting both
sides shared new information on terrorist incidents those which have
occurred since the last meeting. The two-side agreed to continue working
together to exchange information, identify needed measures and assist in
investigation of terrorist activities, he added.—Agencies |
