ANF recovers drugs of Rs750m in operation against smugglers

RAWALPINDI—The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Rawalpindi after Eid, carried out 15 different operations and recovered drugs worth of Rs. 750 million, illegal arms and three vehicles while besides 25 Pakistani smugglers, a former Head Constable of Punjab Police, a woman smuggler from Kenya and a Nigerian smuggler has been arrested.
This was informed by Force Commander Regional Directorate ANF Rawalpindi, Brig Muhammad Asif Alvi in a press conference here on Wednesday. Joint Director ASF, Lt. Col Shahid Mehmood Malik and other officials were also present on the occasion. Brig Asif Alvi informed that overall 70.88 kilogram heroin, 26 kg Charas, 4.8 kg Opium, 9 bottles Liquor, one Klashnikove, one Repeater Gun, two pistols and 3 vehicles have been recovered. He said that most of the accused were arrested from Islamabad Airport where there were caught while trying to smuggle heroin in their luggage and capsules swallowed by them.
Brig Muhammad Asif Alvi told that record production of poppy was witnessed in neighboring country Afghanistan, adding that Pakistan is the transit country where drugs were smuggled from Afghanistan.
He said that due to efforts of ANF, China in a high level negotiations held recently assured Pakistan to provide latest technology aiming to immediate scanning of the passengers, adding that China would also provide Sniffer Dogs to ANF aimed to stop the smuggling of drugs on China-Soost Border. Asif Alvi told that the drugs smugglers often use the uniform and vehicles of Forces but the staff of ANF even caught them.
Regional Directorate ANF Rawalpindi emphasized that there is a need of creating awareness about the harmful affects of drugs among people.
