Ahsan slams Govt, PPP deal on caretaker government
By Muhammad Ali Malik

ISLAMABAD—Ahsan Iqbal, Secretary Information, PML-N strongly criticized media reports of a deal between Musharaf and PPP on formation of caretaker government.
In a statement, he said, “Musharaf and his supporters are not only parties to the next general election. The reports of a deal between General Musharaf and PPP over formation of caretaker government are disturbing because if such development took place then it will be strongly resisted.
In view of the prevailing situation and deepening political crisis in the country, it has become absolutely essential that next election takes place in a transparent manner otherwise it will throw country into a new cycle of political instability.
APDM will discuss this development in its next meeting and adopt a future plan of action to block General |Musharaf’s rigging plans. Pakistanis deserve a fair and free election, which is not possible under General Musharaf. A neutral caretaker government formed in consultation with all opposition parties is the only solution for future stability.
A caretaker government of pro-Musharaf forces will be a facade. If such rigging schemes are to be deployed then there is no need for staging the drama of an election.”
He said, “PML-N’s stand is based on principles. Today Pakistan needs to adopt a clear and difinitive path towards restoration of genuine democracy. The federation is facing serious challenegs as a result of last eight years military rule in the country. The economic policies of the regime have created worst economic inequality and price hike. The crime wave is all time high.
He further added the national institutions of governance are mostly dysfunctional as all decisions are made in Presidency against the constitutional scheme. Nawaz Sharif’s struggle is not just about returning home. It is to return home with victory of democratic principles otherwise Mr. Sharif could easily have returned to Pakistan in 2002 in he had agreed to join hands with General Musharaf.
PML-N is oposed to National reconciliation Ordinance because there is not a word on democracy in it. NRO is only about granting indemnity to those politicians in criminal and corruption cases who decided to join Musharaf team.
“PML-N believes that all politicians must defend their cases before court of law and it can defend all cases against its leadership”,he held.
