Indian PM to
discuss terror with military
NEW DELHI—Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will discuss the issue of
terrorism within the country and its neighbourhood with top commanders
of Armed Forces on Tuesday.
Media reports said on Sunday, the fast changing security scenario in the
India’s neighbourhood, particularly recent terror attacks by “radical
Islamic groups,” would be on the top of the agenda during the crucial
conference of Armed Forces Commanders.
The conference to be presided over by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh will also be attended by prominent figures of civilian government
including External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A
K Antony and Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
Top brass from army, navy and IAF, National Security Advisor, heads of
intelligence agencies and top officials from the Defence and Home
ministries will brief the meeting on the latest security scenario in the
region. The issues relating to militancy in occupied Kashmir, demand for
troop reduction in IOK by different political parties from the state,
and delays in crucial arms inductions will come under discussion in the
Armed Forces Commanders Conference.
The Commanders will also discuss armed forces’ operational capability of
fighting in nuclear and biological warfare environment. Media reports
said the delays in deliveries have deprived the Indian armed forces,
particularly the army of hi-tech weapons systems.—Agencies
