Karachi attack similar to other suicide blasts: Sherpao

GOJRA—Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said the perpetrators of Karachi carnage will soon be apprehended adding solid evidences have been found and the culprits will soon be tracked down.
He said this while talking to the journalists here Sunday on the eve of Walima function of Chaudhry Bilal Asghar MPA. He announced government would not rest unless the elements involved in Karachi bomb explosions were brought to justice.
This terror act was a suicide attack and solid evidence has been found in this respect. Body parts of suicide bomber and his jacket have been taken into custody, he told. The attacker had targeted Benazir Bhutto, he added.
Responding to a question he said Benazir knew well about the causes which led to attack on her. She knows those who are behind suicide attack on her. Investigations are in process in the light of the factors identified by Benazir Bhutto, he told. Report in this regard will soon be evolved, he added.
He informed government was making sincere efforts that general election be held on time in the month of January. Neutral care taker governments would be installed and they will ensure that elections take place in fair and transparent manner.
He stressed that political leadership should demonstrate sincerity for elimination of terrorism and extremism from the country. All the political parties will be taken into confidence on this count to pave the way for holding general elections.
He underscored assemblies were completing their tenure for the first time in the country due to positive strategy of President general Pervez Musharraf. The prevailing situation does not allow to continue political activities through public meetings, he added.
There are visible and identical similarities in suicide bomb blasts of Charsadda, Islamabad and Karachi and investigation in these cases was already in advance stages, said Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.
He was talking to journalists after attending a marriage ceremony of Chaudhry Bilal Asghar Warraich, MPA in Gojra near here Sunday. He said that investigation into suicide bomb blasts was a serious, lengthy and time-consuming process. “
The government was handling these issues very tactfully”, he said and added that irresponsible comments and unnecessary statements regarding these blasts were delaying investigation and such statements must be avoided to finalize the investigation.—Agencies
