Terrorist attack on PPP rally to discourage political activities: PTI

ISLAMABAD—The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has termed the terrorist attack on PPP rally staged in connection with the arrival of Benazir Bhutto in Karachi as a brutal attempt to discourage political activities in the country.
"We strongly condemn this act of terrorism that was aimed at limiting the scope of democratic culture and discourage political activities in the country," Chief of PTI, Punjab Chapter, Ahsan Rashid told APP.
He said such acts could restrain people from participating in public meetings because "every one will give a second thought on whether or not to attend any public meeting where risk to life is always on the cards."
Dilating upon the future strategy of PTI for the forthcoming general elections he said, "PTI will introduce new political faces that will hopefully produce surprising results in the elections."
To a question about Waziristan situation he said that use of military force could not produce any positive result because negotiations and talks were the only way to find out amicable solution to this problem.
He said that a number of countries had been facing extremism in one form or another but one simply could not resolve such problem by only use of force because there was a need to root out the real causes that let extremist tendencies in any society.
Ahsan said, "We will go for vote on the basis of our principled stand on supremacy of law and rule of democracy, which is the only way to put the country on the path of progress and prosperity."
"We strongly believe in the ideology that envisages disposition of justice to each and every segment of society and provision of all basic rights to the people," he said.
He urged all the political parties to come up with a agenda based on mutual cooperation and coordination to strengthen the democratic norms and traditions in the country.—APP
