Pak, UK review bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD—Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri and British Minister for Africa, Asia and UN in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Lord Mark Malloch-Brown on Friday discussed and reviewed various aspects of bilateral relations, with a view to further cement the close and cordial relations.
Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, currently on a two-day visit to Pakistan, called on Foreign Minister Kasuri at the Foreign Office.
The Foreign Minister appreciated the ongoing strengthening of cooperation in all areas.
He particularly lauded the steps being undertaken by the two governments for enhanced development cooperation, increased collaboration in the field of higher education and towards ensuring greater market access for Pakistan in European markets.
Foreign Minister Kasuri underlined Pakistani government’s resolve to hold upcoming general elections in a free and fair manner.
He reiterated the government’s commitment that no one will be allowed to disrupt the democratic process through perpetration of terrorist activities.
Lord Malloch-Brown expressed grief on the loss of innocent lives in the recent terrorist incidents and hoped that such acts of terrorism would not discourage the people of Pakistan in their quest for democracy.
Foreign Minister Kasuri and Lord Malloch-Brown also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest including Pakistan-India relations and the composite dialogue for resolution of core issues including Kashmir dispute, Afghanistan and Iran.
Kasuri apprised Lord Brown of Pakistan’s continued support to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
