Contempt of Court petition filed against CEC

ISLAMABAD—Contempt of court case has been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Qazi Muhammad Farooq here on Wednesday. The petition is filed under the article no 204 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The petitioner and former presidential candidate Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed through his counsel Hamid Ali Khan prayed the apex court to summon the Chief Election Commissioner for announcing the results of presidential election and should be punished according to law. It was further prayed in the petition that apex court had directed the CEC not to announce the final results of presidential elections and this order was highlighted in media, despite this clear directives, the CEC did not abide by his oath and constitution and he should have not opened up all the ballot boxes till the announcement of verdict of Supreme Court. In spite of all this, the CEC has deliberately released the result by violating the court verdict of Oct 5th 2007 and committed the contempt of court.—Online
