FS, ASF Chief
ISLAMABAD—A seven-member special bench Wednesday summonedthe Foreign
Secretary and chief of the Airport Security Force to appear before it in
person on October 30 as it heard a contempt petition over the recent
deportation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from Islamabad airport
to Saudi Arabia.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed
its dissatisfaction at the concise statements filed by the respondents
regarding the deportation process on September 10. The court directed
the Foreign Secretary and ASF chief, besides others, to submit their
detailed replies within a period of three days without fail.
The bench directed DIG Rawalpindi to submit security plan which was
prepared by the police for September 10 when Nawaz Sharif had arrived at
the Islamabad airport from London.
The court asked Attorney General Malik Mohammad Qayyum to implement the
August 23 verdict in letter and spirit and cautioned that the court “is
serious” about the matter.
The Attorney General was also directed to provide a list of those
authorities who were responsible for the non-implementation of the
judgment.
The bench raised a number of questions about immigration laws and
procedural matters followed by the authorities at the airports for
arriving and departing passengers.—Agencies
