Ranger assumes security charge of Karachi Airport

KARACHI—Rangers have assumed charge of Karachi Airport security ahead of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s scheduled arrival today (Thursday). According to a spokesman 2500 Rangers have been deployed at Karachi Airport as unprecedented security measures have been taken by the law enforcement authorities on the eve of Bhutto’s return to Pakistan. Benazir would be guarded by 10,000 police, anti-sniper shields and large number of her own supporters when she returns home on Thursday amid warnings of suicidal attacks on her return, officials said. Meanwhile, police on Wednesday put containers at several roads leading towards airports as a part of arrangements made at the arrival of Benazir Bhutto. Bomb disposal squad would also give clearance to the route of procession and public gathering venue.—Agencies
