Regime
desperately trying to stop Bhutto’s return: PPP
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has said that the government was
‘desperately’ trying to get a notice from a foreign jurisdiction to
either prevent former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from returning to
Pakistan or otherwise to cause confusion amongst her supporters.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, party spokesperson Farhatullah
Babar, however, asked the people not to be disturbed if elements of the
regime attempted any disturbance.
“Bhutto fought a valiant struggle from overseas for an end to a
uniformed presidency and for ushering of a democratic era,” he said.
She was determined to return to Pakistan and was anxiously waiting to
meet with her brothers and sister bringing with her the message of
change from dictatorship to democracy and to a better life for the
hardworking people of Pakistan, he said.
The spokesperson said that the former Prime Minister was returning to
the motherland to bring change, to bring people to power and to bring
hope and opportunity to the people whose hearts are aching.
He hoped that a huge tide of people would throng Karachi from all parts
of the country to accord a historic welcome to Bhutto and with peoples
power sweep away the anti people forces.
