EDB urged to capitalize global market opportunities

ISLAMABAD—Engineering Development Board (EDB) has been urged to utilize the potential of engineering industry by capitalizing opportunities in the global market and assist it to getits due share.
Speaking at a meeting with officers of the Board, AlmasHaider, Chief Executive Officer, EDB said that the board could play its due role only if it is turned into a forward lookingorganization. Necessary skilled development will be provided to the officersof the Board to meet the future challenges, CEO said and added that every officer will be provided one training facility per year. EDB will adopt policy of open communication with the industry and expand its functions in order to cover various sub-sectors ofthe engineering industry, he added. Referring to the economic future of the country he said thatPakistan will maintain 6 to 8 per cent economic growth in next 2-3 years. He said that Western economies were planning to shift towards low cost economies including China, India and Pakistan adding that once this shifting process was completed, it would be difficult for any country to increase its share.
