Tomato price at record Rs140 per kg

ISLAMABAD—The price of tomato in the retail market rose to the unprecedented level of Rs140 per kilogram. A spokesman for the Karachi Wholesale Vegetable Market claimed that rains in Sukkur and Balochistan three months ago had badly affected the tomato crop and the market was witnessing an unprecedented shortage.
He said the price in the wholesale market had gone up from Rs60 to Rs120 over the past one week. He asserted that the supply of tomatoes to Karachi from various parts of Balochistan, such as Khuzdar, Ferozeabad, Naal, Awaran, Arnaj and Lasbela had been badly affected, resulting in the record price increase.
